A man who mistakenly shot himself in the leg in June has been taken into federal custody for violating his probation.

Detective Corey Dixon of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department picked up Wade Anthony Gray on a marshall's warrant today.

Gray, who was on federal parole, was walking down Madison Street June 23 when he thought he heard fireworks and became jumpy.

Gray originally told police he had been shot while walking down a back alley shortly before 10:45 p.m.
