A man sentenced to probation as a conspirator in a 1995 murder was arrested after probation officers found drugs in his home on a routine check.

Lieutenant Chuck Hasty of the Halifax County Sheriff’s said the narcotics and patrol units were called today to assist Probation and Parole at a house on Antler Circle in Roanoke Rapids.

Probation Officers Wade Smith and Khristopher Harris were checking the home of Chad Lavon Hilton when marijuana and cocaine were found.

Agents seized 2 grams of crack cocaine, 14 grams of marijuana, digital scales and a cup full of marijuana seeds.

Hilton was on probation at the time of his arrest and released from prison in July of 2009 after serving a nearly two year prison for selling cocaine and other crimes in 2007.

He was given special probation in 1995 for being a conspirator in a homicide and attempted common law robbery. The 36-year-old has a lengthy prison record which dates to 2001.

Today Hilton was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling place, possession of drug paraphernalia and was served with an outstanding order for arrest.

He has a June 2 court date and a bond of $8,000.

Hasty credited Sergeant Steve Allen, Deputy James Rawls, Deputy Brian Knight, agent Tim Harris and his dog Josh for their assistance.
