Man faces seven new fraud counts

A Roanoke Rapids man already facing three fraud counts now faces seven more after three additional victims came forward.

Walter Harvey Jr., 50, was charged today with seven counts of obtaining property by false pretense, said Detective Doug Pilgreen of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The latest victims filed reports they paid Harvey to work on their vehicle and the work was never completed.

In one case the victim stated he did not get his vehicle back. Another victim reported he carried his truck to Harvey to have some work done on it and paid him in advance in 2005. The victim reported his vehicle was never returned.

Another victim reported he carried his vehicle to have some work done on it in 2009 and paid in advance. The victim reported the work was never done, as did another victim. Another victim reported that he carried his vehicle to Walter Harvey Jr. to have some work done on it in 2009 and paid in advance. The victim reported that the work was never done.

 Pilgreen and Lieutenant Neil Aycock arrested Harvey without incident. He was jailed on $40,000 bond and has a July 21 court date.

Last month a report was filed where the victim alleged between September 2007 and April 2009 he carried a vehicle to Harvey to have it painted and have some mechanical work done. He paid in advance.

The victim alleged he could not locate his vehicle or Harvey.
