Man faces attempted rape charge

A Roanoke Rapids man was charged with attempted rape this morning, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Captain Andy Jackson said Detective Frankie Griffin was sent to a house where an attempted rape of a 40-year-old female victim was reported around 12:35 a.m.

After further investigation Griffin charged 59-year-old Donnie Lee Brantley with attempted rape. He was jailed on $25,000 bond and has a Match 9 court date.

Jackson declined to elaborate but did say the victim woke to find Brantley standing over her.

This guy should be jailed on a 1 million bond. That will keep him locked up until he is sentenced for his crimes
