The homeowner, who confronted the men, was stabbed 13 times with a pocketknife and is recovering from the injuries sustained.
Three other people have also been charged in that crime at 702 Oakley Avenue and a breaking and entering which occurred earlier Friday at 719 Oakley Avenue.
James Edward Powell, 19, of Vance Street, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of felony larceny, two counts of conspiracy, one count possession of stolen goods and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, which included a smoking pipe and butts of joints, commonly referred to as roaches.
The possession of stolen goods count stems from him allegedly having in his possession items stolen from a break-in in October in the area of Cleveland Street, according to Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
Powell was jailed on $500,000 bond and has a December 14 court date.
Meanwhile, investigation by Detective Jeff Baggett and members of B, C and D squads led to other arrests in the case based on execution of search warrants.
The others arrested are:

Trayshawn Kee, 16, of Vance Street, who is charged with one count of second-degree burglary, one count of conspiracy, one count of larceny of a firearm and one count of possession of stolen goods.
Jackson said these charges stem from the 719 Oakley Avenue — initially reported by the police department as occurring at 717 Oakley Avenue — breaking and entering in which a 42-inch television, a DVD player, assorted jewelry, .45-caliber ammo and a Colt 45 pistol were taken. A box with a couple of rounds of ammo were allegedly found on him.
He was jailed on $20,000 bond and, like the others charged, has a December 14 court date.

Altish Powell, 16, of Vance Street, who is charged with second-degree burglary and felony conspiracy. He allegedly stole a game console, games and a laptop from 702 Oakley Avenue. He was jailed on $15,000 bond.

Keno Tillery, 16, of Vance Street, who is charged with second-degree burglary and conspiracy at 702 Oakley Avenue. He was jailed on $15,000 bond.
All were arrested Saturday except for Altish Powell, who was arrested Sunday. Altish Powell and James Powell are not related.

That is EXACTLY right!
They went to the home knowing they were entering someone else's property without permission, they took things that did not belong to them, at least 1 entered with a weapon and used it against the gentleman when he walked in on them. None of that is an accident or a mistake. At any point, they could have decided against such stupidity and laziness. Stop saying it's a mistake. It was a choice, and now they will have to pay for their bad decisions.
I was with you, right until this statement. At a certain point, it is about personal choice. Good parents, bad parents, indifferent parents. We all know good people who did the best they could to raise their children, and the children still decided to become criminals. If a child is 9, yes, it's a parenting issue. If a child is 16, it is more likely a personal choice to go out and knowingly commit a crime. At some point, the parent cannot hold the bag any longer. We all know people who did their best to raise their kids and their kid is a crackhead, or whatever, and the parents are a mess over the choices their child has made.
