Detective Joe Sealey of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Deputy R. Viverette responded to the call about the break-in and subsequent larceny in Scotland Neck.
Through his investigation, Viverette charged 24-year-old Dennis Marquis Hines with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and possession of stolen goods.
He was jailed on $5,000 bond and has a June 8 court date.
