An Enfield man who allegedly bilked an elderly person out of several thousand dollars was arrested Wednesday on 26 counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

Matthew Lee Hendricks Jr., 36, was jailed on $57,000 bond and more charges are pending, Detective James Matthews of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin told rrspin.com Hendricks told an elderly man he needed to borrow money to recover property with no intention of repayment. The charges go back to December.

Warrants were obtained by Matthews on March 19 after completing his investigation. Hendricks has a May 5 court date. Matthews was assisted by Deputy J. Clark and Deputy D. Bozard.
