An Elizabeth City man was cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia early Monday morning.

Roanoke Rapids police officers were called to Fairfield Apartments shortly after 3 a.m. when someone heard a knock at their door but didn’t see anyone.

After investigating that complaint, Captain Andy Jackson said the officers heard noises from another apartment and smelled marijuana coming from inside.

The officers arrested Derrick Murray, 39, and cited him. He had a nickel bag of marijuana on him.

did you know that the man in the artical will pay less than half in fines and court costs than the court system will pay for precossing.and if it werent for the man made process cocaine, herion, meth, morphine,l ortab, oxycodone ,and hydrocodone would not be on any market for sale of any kind.cocaine wouldnt be readily available because you would have to chew the leaves or huff the pollen from the flower not the same effects.meth is all a chemical process witch is man made.as for herion, morphine ,lortab, oxycodo ne ,etc.all come from the same plant 'Papaver somniferum' and you can not process these drugs without man made chemical process.marijuana is all man made and natural and as for you, mr. just say no, God created the heavens and the earth and whats on this earth so yes its all of biblical importance

Cocaine and heroin are all MAN MADE NARCOTICS? And then you spew forth some sort of half-witted intelluctual bile? These are NOT completely man made. You really should research your facts first. You can only back-pedal and sound even more ignorant from this point on. You use "God created" as if to give the plant biblical importance and then you use "Bible-thumping" in a derogatory manner. You should read that book rather than thumping it, or pretending to know what is in it. Can you consider yourself educated in the matter without doing so? Well, lucky for me that my health is perfect and do not require any visits to the doctor. Now, without resorting to attacking one's religion or education, could you enlighten us with your proprietary information on this subject?

Yes, Just Say No, we should legalize ALL OF THE DRUGS!! Because marijuana is SUCH a HUGE KILLER of people and so many crooks are out committing B&E and Armed Robbery to support their marijuana "addiction". GET REAL!! Crack, methamphetamine , cocaine, heroin.. these are all MAN MADE NARCOTICS. Wait a minute.... much like vicodin, oxycodone, percocet, etc., etc., etc. But I BET you don't have a problem getting your pill bottle filled when the Doc prescribes them do you? And these LEGAL drugs, have more harmful side effects or similar side effects as ...... NATURAL, GOD CREATED MARIJUANA!! Now you and REALLY, ROBERT can go get YOUR facts straight before coming in here and blasting someone with your "boobtube, television news, government funded, Bible-thumping, home-grown education". Let those of us who have researched it and DO NOT USE MARIJUANA talk about this with a degree of intellect and education on the subject!!

Quoting Robert:
This is one of many reasons the united states should legalize marijuana so they can focus on more important issues like many other countries have done.Their crime rates have dropped significantly.

Put down the bong and let the fog clear before you speak. The "other countries" that you mention are Cambodia, Pakistan, Peru, Uruguay. By all means, please take a visit and let us know how that works out for you. Better yet, find the crime stats for these "other countries" to back up your point. This country has its faults, that is for sure. But it is without a shadow of a doubt the best country on the planet. Don't take my word for it, go see for yourself.

Where would it stop Robert? Legalize meth while you're at it. Black tar heroin too. Why not? I mean what is it gonna hurt if I have $5 worht of meth or crack in my pocket instead of pot? And really, what do you care about where the police get their shiny new cars? You don't care until you need them to help you keep me the meth or crack head out of your home because I now have a legal habit that I can't afford because I can't keep a job and because I just need ...

You know the law. If you break it you get punished. Why is this so difficult?

are you freaking kidding?with all the crimes going on in rr that actually have victims you would think they had something better to do than chasing around people with $5 worth of pot. This is one of many reasons the united states should legalize marijuana so they can focus on more important issues like many other countries have done.Their crime rates have dropped significantly. But then again if they did that where would they get the money for their shiny new police cars? Most law enforcement funding comes from confiscation and sale of property obtained from marijuana arrests and outlandish tax penalties for the marijuana itself.FYI
