Man charged with stabbing girlfriend

A 38-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was jailed on $500,000 bond for attempted murder of his girlfriend by allegedly stabbing her in the neck.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Jeff Hinton said Tommy Lee Conyers also faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The assault occurred Saturday morning around 2:45 at 164 Collins Avenue.

Hinton said it is not clear what the dispute that led to the stabbing was about. He also said it is not clear how the 23-year-old victim is doing.
