Man charged with sexually assaulting infant

A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Friday with allegedly sexually assaulting a 2-year-old child.

Detective Roy Rooks of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office charged 21-year-old Jeffery Carter with second degree sexual offense and indecent liberties with a minor.

No further details were immediately available.

Carter was jailed on $10,000 bond and has an August 16 court date.

As disgusting as this is and if true I hope he is punished to the full extent of the law, I agree with Debra on reserving opinion until more details/he is tried happens. I know first hand that people can be charged and are completely innocent. All it takes is someone to get mad at someone and make allegations. I pray for the child involved in this and if he is found guilty I pray the inmates know what he's in for. Even inmates have morals when it comes to crimes against children.

Sounds like a lynch mob mentality to me. Shoot first, ask questions later. As the story doesn't present ANY evidence, Debra is right to withhold judgement. It's not like the Halifax sheriff's office hasn't been known to make a few mistakes in the past.

Bond? He gets bond for molesting a child? And $10,000 is all this man is worth to keep off the streets? Wth do you have to do to be kept in the Halifax County Jail?
