Detective J. Sealey said of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Deputy C. Scott charged 24-year-old Joshua Thomas Green with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.
Scott received a call about a breaking and entering of a shed and the larceny of the propane tank.
Deputy E. Johnson assisted and the investigation led to the recovery and return of the tank.
Green, of Roanoke Rapids, was jailed on $5,000 bond and has a September 6 court date.
