The man who allegedly hit and killed a Roanoke Rapids woman Sunday morning has been charged with DWI.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department reports shortly before 1:30 a.m. Amanda Marie George, 25, was attempting to cross the street in the 12100 block of North Tyron Street — Highway 29 — when she was struck by a 2005 Toyota Tundra driven by Travis Scott Moore, 25.

A dispatcher Sunday night told rrspin.com the collision shut down traffic on the road for several hours.

According to the report, George was found by crash investigators in the roadway and airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to Detective Mark Jadlocki, Moore remained on the scene and was charged with DWI. The Charlotte Observer reported Moore, of Matthews, was also charged with violating the open container law.

The Crash Investigations Unit responded and is investigating to determine if other charges apply.

The Observer reported George was employed as a chef and had attended Johnson and Wales University.

The George family is a very fine family, and they did not deserve for this to happen. Their daughter's life was just starting. This doesn't deserve to happen to anybody, so citizen the next time that you have an opinion, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!

cont....This beautiful young lady lost her life way to soon and because of someone else MISTAKE. We all are human we all make them this young man will live with this for the rest of his life! Amanda was who she was because of her nothing to do with who her parents were SHE MADE HER FRIENDS no one made them for her. I was not fortunate enough to know her personally but do have a close family member who was very dear to her.

Things like this happen and could very well happen to anyone of us!I was one of the "stupid ones" who decided to drink and drive 10-21-10 makes a year.Unfortunatley Amanda was a victim! My parents, family or any of my close friends were nobody special. But guess what it was on the front page of the news paper! I was one of the fortunate ones who hurt no one but me and a tree. The ONE thing I was thankful for was that I did not hurt no one but me.. I believe when she met Amanda at maybe 5 years old who's judging families. my thought and heart goes out to the George family my prayers are with "citizen" IT will need them. My advise to them is better find Christ ur gonna need him. Who knows you may meet him b4 u think just as this young lady who had just started her life.Let Amanda rest and the George family deal with their loss the best they can. To the George family God will be with you and help you through this tragic time!!! God bless you.. Ignore ignorance
