Man charged in South Rosemary shooting

A Roanoke Rapids man is in custody this afternoon after he allegedly fired shots at another man around the parking lot of the Family Dollar Store in South Rosemary.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Andre Dwayne Squire of Glover Street has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a concealed weapon, illegal discharge of a weapon within the city limits, going armed to the terror of the people and possession of schedule III — Quanapin.

Police were called to scene shortly before 10:30 this morning. After witness descriptions, officers Duane Daniels and Mark Peck were able to arrest Squire and take a weapon from his waistband.

The shooting was allegedly over a possible dispute over money, Jackson said. The victim in the case not injured.
