A Monday night assault led the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office to arrest a 55-year-old Roanoke Rapids man.

Detective Doug Pilgreen said around 11:30 p.m. officers responded to a house on Orange Blossom Trail in the Roanoke Rapids area.

Deputy Justin Matthews and Pilgreen arrived on the scene and found the victim on Spring Valley Drive with a wound to his head.

The victim alleges Wayne Wilkins started yelling at him and telling him to leave.

Wilkins then hit the victim in his head with a flashlight.

Wilkins was arrested by Matthews and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Wilkins was placed under a $5,000 bond and has an August 18 court date.
