A Christmas morning stabbing landed a 38-year-old Roanoke Rapids man in jail following an argument with the victim at a local motel.

Michael Louis Norfleet, of the 900 block of Henry Street, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was jailed on $250,000 bond and has a February 24 court date.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said officers David Brown and Thomas Mason were called to the Carolina Inn shortly before 1 a.m. and discovered Norfleet in the victim's room.

There had been an argument and when the victim told Norfleet he wasn't going to stand for him disrespecting him and asked him to leave, Norfleet allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

The victim was treated and released. Jackson said it was not clear where on the body the victim was stabbed or what kind of knife was used.
