A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Thursday following a high speed chase that went through Weldon and Roanoke Rapids.

Gregory Brock Weiss, 35, faces numerous charges following the chase which began on Country Club Road around 1:15 p.m. when he made an illegal turn to avoid a check point by the Weldon Police Department, Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said this morning.

Deputy Joe Puhak followed the vehicle with blue lights and siren on and caught up with it at Sycamore Street. The car sped up and continued to Washington Avenue, leading Puhak on a chase through South Weldon, the Weldon town limits and Roanoke Rapids.

Officers from Weldon, Roanoke Rapids and the Highway Patrol assisted.

Agent Anzell Harris used stop sticks at the Interstate 95/Highway 158 bridge to successfully stop Weiss.

Martin said Weiss told officers he was not licensed. He was not only charged with counts associated with the chase but five outstanding orders for arrest for driving offenses.

He was jailed on $16,000 bond and has an August 17 court date.
