Spence Spence Halifax County Sheriff's Office

A Roanoke Rapids man charged in a January domestic assault now faces similar charges for an assault on Stephens Street in Roanoke Rapids Friday.

Lieutenant George Evans of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said deputies G.H. Teal, Chris Boden and J.M. Clark responded to the house and found the victim in the case had clearly been assaulted.

The victim was treated and released at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

The victim told investigators Raymond Mitchell Spence had assaulted her and wouldn’t let her leave.

Spence, 47, faces charges of second degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault inflicting serious injury and assault on a female.

Spence was jailed without the opportunity for bond because the case is domestic and has an April 27 court date.

Evans said the weapon charge reflects Spence allegedly cut the victim with a knife. He also allegedly kicked her in the ribs, possibly breaking them.

In January Spence was charged with assaulting a female victim on her body and face with a blunt object.

By the looks of the tornado pictures, I would call the storm "Mitch Spence". He seems to have the same destruction in your town. I just want to know "Who keeps cleaning up after him"?

Unknown, you say alcohol and other things cause Mitch to do the things he does, don't you mean alcohol and drugs? You say he is different when he is sober, when is he ever sober? You say you know what he does and has done. If you were a friend and you knew alcohol was the problem, why weren't you friend enough to help him get help with his problem. If truth be told he has at some time abused you.If everyone he has abused had testified against him, you could have saved all the others from being abused by him. I am appalled by your comment about the girl he assaulted that maybe she liked it. No man or woman deserves to be assaulted. This comment just shows your mentality. Is that why you don't put your name on your comment, or are you afraid of retaliation from Mitch? You did say you knew what he does and has done.

I have known Mitch almost 20 years. I can say that as a sober man he is a very good person but when you add alchohol and other things to the mix he is a total different person. The alchohol is not an excuse it is a problem and this does not excuse what he has and is doing because he is grown and should know better and I do believe justice should be served. Oh and for this lady she needs to be evaluated because if he done it in Jan. and she stayed (which she did) what made her think it wouldnt happen again. Just Saying (maybe she liked it)

I know of at least 25 people who have been assaulted by Mitch Spence, encluding a 19 yr. old retarded boy.I took this boy to court and again Mitch got off. Everyone who wants him in jail, and there are many, need to call the DA's and voice your concern. If he gets off this time, I'm going to do everything in my power to find out why. Mark my word, the next time, if there is a next time, he is going to take someones life. Don't be fooled by him, he is the devil in sheep's clothing.

Angie, your opinion of this man is just that, your opinion. The facts (and police reports) speak for themselves. He appears to be a very violent person.
