A Hollister man was treated and released from Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount after he was beaten with a bat Sunday.

Lieutenant Chuck Hasty said Deputy Matt Brown responded to a fight call at Lynch’s Grill in Hollister.

Deputy Brown observed a large crowd and people fighting on the ground. Donovan Carter was assaulted with a bat and was transported to Nash General Hospital by EMS.  Detective J.L. Matthews III charged Daniel Lapas Jones of Hollister and Mario Darrell Gills of Hollister with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Both men were given $10,000 bonds and court dates of June 30.

Hasty also reported the following crimes over the weekend:

• On Friday Deputy E.C. Carroll arrested Freddy Allen Jones Jr. of Roanoke Rapids for larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense.

Deputy Carroll conducted an investigation that started on April 19 in the Smith Church Road area where the victim reported some items were taken without the victim’s permission.

Deputy Carroll learned the property was taken to a salvage yard and sold for junk.  Pamela Jones was also charged with the same counts as Freddy Jones and was arrested by Roanoke Rapids police on May 26.

Both have June 8 court dates.

• Detective Tyree Davis Saturday charged Vance Richardson of Enfield with indecent liberties with a child. Detective Davis received a report from the child’s mother that during a cookout Richardson had inappropriate contact with her child.

Richardson had a bond of $10,000 and a court date of July 14.

• On Sunday Deputy Chris High stopped a vehicle on Highway 158 and Huckleberry Bottom Road for an equipment violation. Deputy High during his traffic stop found 10 grams of marijuana and scales inside the vehicle.

Deputy High issued citations to Maurice McKinley Newell of Littleton and Michael Jamar Edmonds of Littleton for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are scheduled to appear in court on June 28.
