Jonathan Lucas was wanted for second-degree kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl who he allegedly abducted at knifepoint from the Roanoke Rapids High School parking lot.
Chief Jeff Hinton said police recovered a shotgun from the house Lucas was hiding in but the man offered no resistance when confronted.
The events leading to the man’s arrest began shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday when the girl’s parents reported her missing, Captain Andy Jackson said earlier today. Police found the girl’s car at the high school parking lot.
Further investigation led officers to discover Lucas allegedly abducted the girl at knifepoint and forced her to go with him.
Jackson described the matter as a boyfriend and girlfriend dispute. The girl was located by police and Jackson said she had bruises on her arm and body. He was also charged with resisting arrest and was jailed on $25,000 bond.
A family member said the charges against her cousin are not true and that the couple was seen walking hand-in-hand.
The cousin, Amy Laureano, said the girl was told to leave Lucas alone but continued to bother him and call his cell phone.
