Essential personnel will report for duty. This closing results from continuing electric power outages, communications difficulties and continuing recovery efforts. Additional information will provided at a later time.
Electric power outages: Electric service has been partially restored, but many sections of Northampton County remain without service. Residents experiencing power outages are reminded to call their power service provider to report outages. Please do not contact 911 to report power outages. Personnel from area electric service providers have been working non-stop to restore electric service to all customers as soon as possible, however damage system damage has been extensive.
Highway conditions: Several roadways in Northampton County remain closed owing to fallen trees and downed power lines. Those traveling roadways in the County are urged to remain cautious as some standing trees weakened by the storm are subject to falling at any time. Residents are also urged to be mindful of emergency response personnel who continue to identify and remove hazards, and make necessary repairs.
Halifax
Halifax County government offices and court services (District and Superior) will be closed Tuesday because of continued power outages in the town of Halifax. County offices are not able to operate and serve citizens without power.
State and FEMA damage assessment teams are doing preliminary drive-by inspections throughout Halifax County. They cannot accept applications or provide assistance. Citizens are urged to call the FEMA assistance line at 1-800-621-3362.
