Rodney Lee Miles was charged with first degree burglary and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said he wasn't sure if Miles surrendered on his own or was encourage to do so by family members.
Last Friday the sheriff's office arrested three of the men allegedly involved in the home invasion in which the victim, Rudolph DeAndre “Dre” Davis, a reputed drug dealer now in federal custody, shot and killed Ricardo Keith Harley.
Harley was wearing protective body armor. Martin declined to say where Harley was shot on his body or whether the body armor was defective.
Martin said the man Davis detained, Kayman Northington, was not wearing body armor.
Martin attributed the work that led to the arrests of the three people last week and the surrender today of Miles, who is from Gaston, to, “good, old fashioned investigative work.”
Asked if the men knew Davis, Martin said, “I don't know if they knew him but if they were there to commit a robbery over drugs you can derive an answer.”
While the sheriff's office continues to tie up loose ends on the case, Martin said the sheriff's office believes it has picked up all those involved.
The attempted robbery took place on December 22 at Davis's residence on Short Street in Littleton. Under the Castle Doctrine, Davis was not charged with killing Harley.
Miles has a February 1 court date.
