The suspect in a Saturday morning home invasion was killed by the homeowner after a struggle in which the victim wrested the suspect's gun.

Three people are being sought in the home invasion, according to Captain Jay Burch of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office is not disclosing the name of the 17-year-old suspect, who was a juvenile offender on a weekend pass from the Edgecombe Youth Development Center.

The home invasion occurred in the Highway 481 area of Enfield.

The homeowner heard footsteps on the porch and, looking through a peephole, saw the suspects, who kicked in the door.

A fight ensued and the homeowner was able to get the suspect's gun, a .38-caliber weapon, and shoot him in the head. The suspect died instantly.

Burch described the home invasion as a targeted crime and not a random act. He said sheriff's office investigators will confer with the district attorney's office to determine whether charges will be filed against the homeowner.

The case remains under investigation and investigators are looking for the following:

Marcus Manquell Bell, 26, of Rocky Mount, is wanted for first degree burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Bell is wanted for two counts of communicating threats and driving while license revoked in an unrelated case.

62611Diamante_Harrell

Diamante Harrell, 19, of Raleigh, is wanted for the same charges and is on probation for drug charges in Edgecombe County.

62611Jasmine_Graham

Jasmine Deshaunda Graham, 20, of Battleboro, is wanted on the same charges and is on probation for similar charges in Wake County.

Burch praised the work of Sergeant Greg Richardson and deputies Corey Griffin and Roy Viverette, calling their response textbook. “The excellent job that was done by the initial officers set the pace for this investigation moving at such a quick pace. I cannot express my gratitude enough. I also wish to express my sympathy to the juvenile’s family for their loss in this difficult time. “

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

Seems like a clear cut case of self defense to me. If anyone should be charged with murder, it should be the ones who convinced him to do a foolish act in the first place, I say justice was served.
