Harvest Days will be scaled back to a one day event this year, Halifax County Cooperative Extension Director Arthur Whitehead said today.

This year’s event will be held October 2. It was a Friday and Saturday event.

Whitehead said there were several reasons for the decision. “So many others are going to one day. It took a lot on our volunteers and funding is not as good as it used to be.”

According to the county’s website, the first Halifax Harvest Day was held October 10, 1992.

Its purpose and mission of the event was to promote the heritage, Southern hospitality and agrarian culture in Halifax County, and to entice the millions of route 95 travelers to visit the county to learn more about the county's past and present agricultural heritage.
