Three people were arrested Monday and 54 bags of marijuana seized after narcotics detectives observed a hand to hand transaction in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Detectives Jamie Hardy and Tommy Hathaway were in the parking lot of the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District when they observed the transaction occur across the street in the parking of Big Al's, according to Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

The observation led to the arrest of Anthony Watson, 26, of Riverview Court, Roanoke Rapids; Tyler Patrick Warren, 17, of Vance Street, Roanoke Rapids; and Tyler Baird, 18, of Aurelian Springs Road, Halifax.

Watson was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for use and distribution of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed on $4,000 secured bond and has a November 9 court date.

Warren was charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a $500 secured bond and has the same court date as Watson.

Baird faces the same charges as Warren and was given the same bond and court date.

The arrests took place just before 1 p.m.

Michael, I thank you for the profession you have chosen, but what you are saying is not totally accurate. Anything that you ABUSE is not good for you. If I abuse soft drinks, Coffee and Eggs there will be some type of negative outcome that will affect my health, But I have known people who has smoked for over 50 years and are in great health. Everything in moderation. Thank you for your service Michael.

Quoting T-ONE:
I know tons of productive citizens who smoke weed. I don't myself, but something has to be done. People lives are being destroyed for something that's good for you (medical marijuana). BTW: How is the war on drugs?

While there are some legitimate medical uses for marijuana, I wouldn't go so far as calling it "good" for you. It can give some amelioration of nausea and vomiting, and stimulation of hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS patients, but it's far from being a cure for anything. And like tobbacco, it increases the risk of developing lung cancer or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). I certainly wouldn't want users in my profession (healthcare). The cognitive impairing effects are just unacceptable.

I think we should take a serious look at legalizing some of these drugs. Again, I think states should have a Red Light district. I know tons of productive citizens who smoke weed. I don't myself, but something has to be done. People lives are being destroyed for something that's good for you (medical marijuana). BTW: How is the war on drugs?

54 bags of marijuana and the bond is only $4,000 and $500. Wow!
