Temple said the men entered the house and fired one shot, which struck Brandon Tyrone Peterson, 29, in the upper torso. Temple declined to say what kind of weapon was used and said investigators are still trying to develop a motive in the killing. Other people were in the house in the 1000 block of Maple Street Extension when the shooting occurred but were not harmed.
The sheriff's office received a report of a person being shot around 11:45 p.m. Sergeant Greg Richardson and Deputy Travis Clark arrived and discovered Peterson had been shot and later died at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
