Detective J. Puhak said on June 24 the sheriff’s office responded to an undisclosed incident at the Food Lion in the 2500 block of the West 10th Street area of Roanoke Rapids.
Through the store’s surveillance equipment, the sheriff’s office was able to observe three black males enter the store.
Two of the males are approximately 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weigh between 140 to 170 pounds. The other is approximately 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs between 200 to 250 pounds.
Once in the store, the trio is observed going straight to the pre-loadable name brand gift credit cards section and going to a cashier.
It is suspected the group is operating some sort of counterfeiting technology that enables them to load legitimate credit and bank accounts onto the temporary credit cards.
From there the suspects are able to fraudulently buy and charge freely on unsuspecting victim’s accounts.
Puhak told rrspin.com this morning it is believed the men somehow access legitimate information either by stealing purses, rifling through garbage or finding other means to steal people's financial information.
He said in a press release the sheriff's office wants, “To make area residents aware of this fraudulent activity, as well as encourage area residents to monitor their accounts for unauthorized transactions.”
If anyone has information pertaining to the identity of the suspects in the above photo they are encouraged to call Puhak at 252-593-1021 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
There may be a reward pending successful apprehension and prosecution of the suspects.
