Before the ribbon was even cut, there was a line, customers waiting to get into the new Goody’s store in Roanoke Rapids.

The ribbon is cut.

The Goody’s now occupies what was Peebles in the shopping center where Tractor Supply is located on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

The return of Goody’s to Roanoke Rapids and 22 other locations today was done through Stage Stores, said Sean Beaver, district manager for Goody’s.

Stage bought the name Goody’s when Goody’s went bankrupt a few years ago, Beaver explained after the ribbon cutting. “Goody’s is a more recognized name in this region.”

Chamber of commerce President Allen Purser said the chamber appreciates Goody’s coming back to the market. “It’s a great store. They have a great reputation and fit the community well. We’re glad they’re here.”

Mayor Emery Doughtie was impressed with the turnout and the customers waiting to shop for opening day bargains. “It’s good to have you back.”

Beaver makes last minute preparations.

Beaver dedicated the opening of the store to W.T. Bradley, the manager of the Peebles store who died in February. “He was looking forward to being here. I know he would have appreciated it.”

My impression was that it's the same store, just with a new sign. I was hoping to see a bit more variety.
