Garysburg woman dies in I-95 crash

A 65-year-old Garysburg woman died in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 95 Friday.

Her 19-year-old granddaughter, who was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, is recovering from her injuries.

Trooper M.D. Adair of the state Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred shortly before 1:45 p.m. in the northbound lane of the interstate at the Highway 481 exit.

Margaret McNair Squire apparently ran off the road and her vehicle struck the bridge abutment.It has not been determined what caused her to run off the road and the wreck is still under investigation.

Squire’s granddaughter, Lashana Squire, of Raleigh, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Adair said there were no witnesses.
