A Garysburg man is facing a child sex offense charge after an investigation by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Wardie Vincent, early Monday morning his office arrested Larry Edward Roberts, 63, of Highway 186 in Garysburg.

Roberts was charged with first degree sexual offense.

Vincent said deputies conducted an investigation upon the Sheriff’s Office receiving a report on June 2 in reference to a sex offense and child porn.

The sheriff said the investigation, conducted by Detective Brenda Burnette and Deputy Jimmy Pair, revealed the suspect had taken indecent liberties with a 10-year-old child.

Roberts was placed in the Northampton County Jail and placed on a $35,000 secured bond. His first appearance was Monday.

Vincent said there may be more charges pending and possibly more victims.
