A 28-year-old Garysburg man drowned at the Roanoke Rapids lake park off Oakwood Avenue Sunday when he had difficulty after getting in the water.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Jarmarcus LeChan Ingram went in the water to swim shortly after 6:35 p.m.

He had what Jackson described as some difficulty while in the water and began waving his arms for help.

Roanoke Rapids Police Officer Mike Moseley was the first to arrive and immediately dove in the water and retrieved the victim.

CPR was administered and Ingram was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Jackson said it was unclear whether Ingram knew how to swim.

He said Moseley did all he could do to save the man. “I think he did an excellent job.”

I would like 2 give my condolences to the family of Mr. Ingram ...as well as witnessing the sheer courage that Officer Moseley bestowed upon himself to retrieve the victim. Im a nurse and it was instinct to assist him with CPR until further emergency crews responded and loaded. Everyone truly did everythg they could in a timely manner without placing others in harm as well. ...but please watch your family friends and loved ones near water closely...old or young...I walked by this man in the water as I was on the track...2 min later hear a scream for help and he was no longer visible...and now departed.. it leaves me speechless ....
