Fake $20 bills passed in city Roanoke Rapids Police Department

Roanoke Rapids police are investigating the passing of counterfeit $20 bills.

On May 14 two $20 bills were passed at Texas Steakhouse, which was discovered at the end of the night, when the money was being counted,  Captain Andy Jackson said.

On Monday a counterfeit $20 bill was discovered at the Hilton Garden Inn.

No suspect description is available.

The bills contain the serial number JC2859120019 and are a 2009 series.

Jackson counterfeiters usually try to pass bills when businesses are the busiest.

The bills the police department has are poor quality. There is no hologram and they feel different than a real bill does. "People need to pay close attention."

The bills appear to have been laundered and wrinkled so it appears they have been used.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
