Enfield woman faces child abuse count

An Enfield woman was charged with felony child abuse Thursday following a nearly month long investigation by the Enfield Police Department.

Tasha Monique Caine was jailed on $200,000 secured bond and awaits a November 23 district court appearance.

The charge stems from an October 3 call from Halifax County social services regarding a suspected child abuse case, according to Lieutenant Jerry Powell.

Detective R.L. White began an investigation which revealed on October 1 the infant was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids for treatment of burns, which Powell described this morning as scalding.

The child was immediately flown to the University of North Carolina Burn Center where it was confirmed the child sustained second degree burns to his body.

Further examination found bone fractures in various stages of healing, Powell said.

It was unclear how long ago the child sustained the fractures, Powell said.

He said the child is expected to make a full recovery.

There are so many children that are going through the same thing, maybe not to that extreme but still the same. and if you report something like this to Social Services, they have more excuses to why they can't do anything than anything I've ever seen or heard of in my life. I don't know, but I'd almost bet she was getting welfare for the child. And if they would make jobs to keep track of these kids, a lot of this abused and neglect wouldn't be happening. People like that murder a child's heart and soul before they even get a chance to live. And most of the time it's a chain reaction if they live through the abuse in the first place. No Mercy for the grownups, but I pray for the children. And if another person knows of things going on like this and don't report it they are just as much to blame as the abusers! This is a sociaty world on one hand, but we all will turn our cheeks on another. It's time we all took a stand to protect our future, which is our kids, all of them!

yes everyone make mistakes but this is not a mistake. this was intentionally done. abuse to a child. that is not acceptable. yes God will forgive her if she ask for forgiveness but she (the mother) needs serious help and prayers. whatever she got going on she should not take it out on the baby. if she needed help with the baby she could call family, friends or even DSS to place the baby in a foster home. My prayers goes out to the baby for a speedy recovery and for the mother to get the help she needs but yes she needs to be punished also for what she has done.

yeah the lord needs to look after them both but this child should not have gone through all of this. this is crazy and it is child abuse to ignore your child having serious injuries.

I agree with T-One she should not be able to be around kids.. This is crazy and if she ever gets pregnant they should take the baby on spot.. Its people out here everyday that want kids and cant have them someone could of loved this baby!! SMHHAAMF!

I totally agree..But our justice system will let her off easy..I wouldnt be scared to bet..dam shame. she shouldnt have had the baby if she was gonna harm it..I wish this was censored and she could hear me..i have some words for her..stupid B&*tch!
