Roanoke Rapids Police Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said officers responded to the call around 2:30 and noticed a car leaving the area off Highway 125 heading to Highway 158.
The car was stopped around McDonald’s on Julian Allsbrook. A person later identified as Calvin Wright fled from the vehicle and appeared to be carrying a gun. Wright was chased to a wooded area and apprehended.
Bondarek said the gun Wright carried was determined to be the same .45-caliber semiautomatic weapon which left one car damaged and put four holes in the apartment.
Several shell casings and some projectiles were recovered from the scene.
Wright, 22, was charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property, discharging a weapon in city limits, going armed to the terror of the people, two counts damage to property and one count of resisting arrest. He was also served an outstanding order for arrest for being a probation absconder in Northampton County. Wright has an August 4 court date.
Bondarek said it was not clear what the shooting was about.
