It may seem an odd location to recruit students, but on Thursday and Friday Elizabeth City State University will be doing that at the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport.

There’s a reason, airport Manager Ralph Johnson, says. ECSU has an aviation science program.

The ECSU plane.

The school has it own airplane, Johnson said, and will be at the airport to talk about its program. “They’re going to talk about avionics and airport management. It’s something we would like to see at our local college.”

The course description on the university’s website says, “The Aviation Science Program is the academic unit of Elizabeth City State University that educates and trains students for careers and opportunities in aviation and space science.

“The University's proximity to the many large and small businesses, manufacturers, military installations, and government agencies that are integrally involved with aviation and aerospace makes Elizabeth City State University ideally located for students interested in aviation and aerospace careers.”

Recruiters will be at the airport Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

I say why not. They have a program dedicated to aviation, then hold a recruitment event at the airport definitely helps promotes that program. I wish them well.

What a great idea, and a different education and career option for local students! Hope they see a good turnout for this.
