A driver who stopped and bolted from his vehicle during a pursuit Sunday morning was later found walking on Interstate 95 and arrested.

The chase began shortly before 4 a.m. when Halifax County Sheriff's Office Deputy A.T. Johnston noticed a vehicle near Highway 561 and Interstate 95 get on the interstate at a high of rate speed.

Johnston attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver, later identified as Travathan Cartez Wyche, continued driving south.

Johnston followed the vehicle for five miles when the driver exited the interstate onto Highway 481 heading west. Wyche drove for another mile, stopped the vehicle at the Drapers Road intersection in the Enfield area and ran.

Later caught, Wyche was charged with flee to elude arrest, speeding, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving and failure to stop for a stop sign.

He was jailed on $5,000 bond and has a November 28 court date.
