Director John Simeon said Friday the Doyle Field project inspired Lloyd’s Decorating and Snipes Insurance to donate paint to redo the dugouts at Ledgerwood.
The donation, Simeon said, speaks well of not only the support of baseball in the community, but, “The community support for kids in Roanoke Rapids.”
The Doyle project was an effort between the city and school system to make improvements to where the high school baseball team has its home games. All that’s left is putting up the scoreboard. “We are putting our best foot forward to have it in place for Tuesday’s home game.”
Pepsi helped the city and the school system with the new scoreboard and Pepsi is interested in helping with the Ledgerwood scoreboard, Simeon said.
Friday, the Public Works Department dug trenches to ready the wireless scoreboard for placement. “It’s really a cooperative effort because parks and recreation doesn’t have the manpower or equipment,” said Simeon. “This scoreboard wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of public works.”
Simeon said parks and recreation would eventually like to redo the infield of Doyle. “We have actively talked about renovating the infield. It’s going to take a volunteer effort from the community or sponsorship of the community.”
