Downeast Pizza Incorporated, which owns the Domino’s on East Tenth Street, had tax liens filed against it in August and September, according to documents filed at the Halifax County Courthouse.

The first certificate of tax liability was filed August 5. The amount owed was $99,282.73. The second tax lien was filed September 9. The amount of that lien was $5,085.77, meaning a total of $104,368.50 in taxes was owed.

The nonpayment goes back to 2008, records indicate.

The Domino’s was seized for nonpayment of taxes.

Beth Stevenson, director of public affairs for the state Department of Revenue said the seizure was the result of Downeast failing to pay sales and use tax as well as withholding taxes.

The only way the business can reopen is for the company to pay the taxes. If they don’t pay the company would go through normal court procedures.
