Williams Williams Weldon Police Department

A domestic disturbance call helped Weldon police Saturday catch a robbery suspect.

Captain James Avens said Calvin Leon Williams Jr., of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested for the robbery of the Blue Flame that occurred on February 19.

He was identified as a suspect in July. On Saturday, Lieutenant Chris Davis and Officer Chris Exum responded to a call at 412 County Road where a dispute between Williams and his girlfriend took place.

Officers checked for warrants and discovered Williams was wanted for the Blue Flame robbery. He was charged with armed robbery and jailed on $10,000 bond.

The robbery occurred shortly before midnight when a person described as a black male wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun entered the store.

The man demanded money from the clerk while two customers were inside. No one was hurt.

The man left with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen on foot headed to First Street.
