Davis Davis Halifax County Sheriff's Office

A Roanoke Rapids man with a long history of trouble now faces more charges in a series of break-ins that have been investigated since last week.

On Tuesday the Halifax County Sheriff's Office charged Jacob Matthew Davis, 22, with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen property and injury to real property in one breaking and entering that occurred in the Highway 158 area of Roanoke Rapids the same day he was arrested.

Detective J. Sealey said Davis was charged following a report of a breaking and entering early Tuesday morning.

Investigation by Detective Herbert Williams, with assistance by Deputy J. Keeter and his dog, Broady, led to the arrest and the recovery of some of the stolen property, Sealey said.

Sealey declined to elaborate on the items taken in that breaking and entering.

Davis was jailed on $30,000 bond for that crime but his bond was increased to $80,000 Wednesday when he was charged with several other break-ins in the Highway 158 area.

In those breaking and entering cases Davis faces four counts of of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny, two counts possession of stolen property, felony obtaining property by false pretense and four counts of injury to property.

Investigation of those crimes also led to he and wife, Maria Elliot Davis, being arrested for felony maintaining a dwelling to keep controlled substances.

Mrs. Davis, 19, was released on $2,500 bond and has a March 21 court date.

Sealey declined to elaborate on what drugs were allegedly found during the investigation.

Sealey said in those break-ins some property, including tools and jewelry, some highly prized by their owners, was recovered.

He declined to discuss how this series of crimes may affect a previous plea by Mr. Davis on a series of crimes committed in Roanoke Rapids in 2010.

Sealey praised the officers who assisted in the case. “Due to the keen observation, knowledge and tenacious efforts to solve crimes in their respective areas, Sergeant Randy Keeton, Deputy Danny Radford, Deputy Jason Keeter and his K9 Brody assisted in halting an ever growing crime spree before it spiraled out of control. Due to their efforts precious personal property that may have otherwise never been found was returned to grateful owners.”

Mr. Davis has a March 14 court date.

Apparently Lance panders to the Jesus Freaks too much to post my comment on this. Nothing like censorship.

Hmmmm2: I looked up atonement on Bible Gateway, and you are right. People were supposed to atone for their sins.... in the Old Testament. In the new covenant this is what it says, "For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people."
Hebrews 2:16-18

Hmmmmm: I don't think you read my whole post. And if you did I don't think you undestood it. I was not trying to cram religion down your throat, you just took it that way. What it is with people these days that if someone mentions God they get on the offensive? That is my sister and brother in law that I am talking about, and I think that you would be surprised to know that God is closer to them than you might think. If you think that you don't need God then it is people like you that are in more need of Him than my sister and broher in law. Just saying. Which is somewhat what is behind all of the words I put up here. To see someone write "they need God, we don't" only serves to prove my point more. It is those that know they are sinners and have been forgiven much that love much. I am sure that the crime will be atoned for with the law, but for our sins, Jesus died to atone for our sins. It is those that do not have that covering that will atone for them themselves.

We all need God but other than that statement I agree with what you had to say. Also, while you are reading the Bible see if you can find verses saying people are to atone for their sins....not make excuses.

[quote name="hmmm"]What exactly does this have to do with the story? I am glad you believe in God but please don't push it down our throats. These people did wrong. They made a choice. They need God not us.

I just began reading the Bible starting at the begining recently and this morning after reading in Genesis I was thinking how the Bible shows how sinful man is and how faithful God is. There are so many great stories and the people do some crazy things, yet God continues to make something of them and love them. Everyone has a place in His story. On the topic of this story on rrspin I cannot try to explain to you something that only God understands, but I have faith that God's hand is upon this family and the comments from the snakes and brood of vipers will not touch this family. Their child is in good hands with his parents and the family that surrounds them.

Halifax County Social Services should get involved with this case, these two crimals have a child that needs attention from someone other than their so call parents! They aren't responsible enough to provide for a child more less provide a good living environment!
