While there may be some cost estimates in the report, system spokesperson Keith Hoggard said DPI will most likely discuss what it will take to get Brawley and Eastman middle schools up to code.
The school system thus far has not received resistance from the state on a 4-2 decision by the school board to reopen the schools, Hoggard said. That decision was made at a July 6 meeting. The schools were closed because of declining enrollment.
Board of commissioners Chairman James Pierce has said he believes reopening the schools is a bad idea because the school system doesn’t have the funds to do so.
He also said he believes reopening schools which were closed because of declining enrollment is educationally not a sound idea.
Hoggard has said it is not clear how much it would cost to open the schools.
The school system already knows heating and air conditioning units at the schools have been vandalized and stripped of copper wiring. Equipment and furniture taken from the schools will have to be replaced
