Crigler Crigler Roanoke Rapids Police Department

Already facing charges from September car break-ins, a Roanoke Rapids man now faces more charges from a series of motor vehicle break-ins Sunday morning.

James Dean Crigler, 26, of West Fourth Street, was jailed on $30,400 secured bond and has a November 4 court date, according to Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

He has six orders for arrest for failure to appear, faces 10 counts of motor vehicle breaking and entering, four counts of larceny and four counts of possession of stolen goods.

The charges stem from break-ins Sunday morning in the areas of Valley Drive, Holly Road, Arbutus Drive and Woodland Road.

Around 5:45 Sunday morning a resident in the Holly Road area heard a dog barking constantly and when they turned the porch light on observed two people, one standing over the driver side of an unlocked vehicle and the other on the passenger side.

The resident hollered at them and called 911. The men fled and got in a vehicle which the resident was able to get a good description of.

Officer Gorton Williams was able to track the vehicle to a 1992 Nissan Sentra which had been reported missing earlier in the evening.

The vehicle was allegedly linked to Crigler at 369 West Fourth Street and Williams found several items inside the vehicle that were taken in the break-ins, items including rings and other jewelry.

Throughout Sunday officers from D squad continued investigating the case and were able to obtain warrants for Crigler's arrest.

On Monday officers went to Fourth Street with warrants for Crigler, who Jackson said didn't want to come out of the residence.

Officer Chris Woodruff used his dog Zeusa to locate him.

Jackson said the warrants reflect four car break-ins in the Valley Drive area, three on Holly Road, one on Arbutus Drive and one on Woodland Road.

A shotgun, child's bow and arrow, marine band radio, Diet Mountain Dew and jewelry were among the items reported missing.

Police continue to investigate to find the person who was allegedly with Crigler that morning.

He needs to be locked up or at least 10 years. As soon as he gets out of jail he's breaking into someones home or car can't you see he is begging to go back to jail for some hard time. Give him what he wants a home behind bars.

At least one comment was not published because it used the term "crackhead." Please steer columns away from outright character assaults even if you know, or believe to know, the story behind the story. rrspin.com and yourself can be held libel for such comments.

I am sick of people taking what other people worked hard for and EARNED. I feel like that guy in the movie--"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore." If I catch someone inside my car, I am going to handle it. Sure, I'll be the one to go to jail because our system is so messed up....but, you lazy scoundrels aren't going to steal from me without picking some lead out of your worthless behinds. This town has gone straight to hell in the last 16 months....murders, robberies and assaults every single day. Per capita it is unbelievable. Word to you thieves....some of us are going to fight you back to protect ourselves and what we work hard for. Then we can get three free hot meals a day!!!!!!!

And yet he was given another bond. Why? Are area jails that crowded? What do you think he's going to be up to while out on bond? Lock your doors...car and house.
