What started as a wreck investigation is now a murder probe, according to Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Jeff Hinton.

Saturday night around 10:45, officers responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Chockoyotte Street where a 1996 Ford vehicle struck a tree.

The driver was identified as Jonathan Martice Andino, 23, of Halifax.

Hinton said Andino was not responsive and transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center by Halifax EMS who were performing CPR.

Upon his arrival at HRMC, Andino was treated and later pronounced dead.  An autopsy was performed at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville and investigators Monday were notified that Andino suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his torso which caused his death.

No further information is available at this time.

Mr. Finney might want to check his OWN spelling and grammar before condeming others. :) (just saying)

I do think that I mentioned the ATTEMPT to use proper grammar and spelling.... I never said I was the perfect example of such. Oh... it's CONDEMNING by the way... that's an easy one!!

Well, I WAS an EMT, then an RN, and am now an APRN. And even not having been there, I can tell you that something is very wrong if Halifax EMS and the hospital both missed a gunshot wound. Yes, people make mistakes. But for these groups to act blameless is both indefensible and, quite frankly, disturbing. Some personal accountability might be nice for a change, instead of the usual cover-up.

I did a spell check on the post that supposedly had spelling errors; other than the name Frankea and not putting a proper number of spaces after a few periods & one small grammar error that should have been whom & not who this post was error free. The responding post on the other hand did have the word condemning misspelled. Now as for this article, yes it is a crying shame that someone lost their life especially so young. As for how the call was handled by EMS, I have this to say, if you have never worked EMS then you have NO RIGHT to condemn what kind of job was done. Speaking from experience, you do everything you can as quickly & systematically as possible. I do not work for Halifax EMS, but I can tell you this, they were only 2 minutes from the hospital so they had the patient a short amount of time & I am sure they did all they could within their human limits. If you think you can do a better job, a new EMT class starts in January at Halifax Community College. Just saying :)

Yes, Frankea.... because we all know that the "hood" is so co-operative with the police in any effort to solve a crime involving one of the people living there. Sure... the "hood" would have found out sooner or later, but rather or not the RIGHT person was found would remain to be seen, and any number of people would have been attacked by the people there out of retaliation. It's a very vicious cycle that breeds in low income areas. "Leave the cops out of it and handle it ourselves," too often appears to be how these areas handle crimes like murder and assault. On another note to all users here:Can we PLEASE at least ATTEMPT to use some form of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling!! Seriously? I mean, personally, I let a post behind anonymous names or with poor grammar and spelling hold no water. If you cannot come out as to who you are, then you apparently have no business posting. And if you can't spell... well.. I guess if spell-check is too complicated to use well...

Man that (expletive deleted) is crazy and if he had a right side gunshot wound that mean the passenger or who ever was riding with him (shot) him....i mean come on now i don't think the police are using their heads they need to get to the bottom of this A.S.A.P before the hood do!!!!
First and fore most no one said NOTHING about killing nobody...When i said the hood will find out it was meaning to say that people TALK and he would soon be given up OK! im not about to engage into this rrspin stuff im just glad the police got to the bottom of this and he can finally rest in peace.....

Yes.. because "hood justice" is what is needed here!! HOW MORONIC OF A STATEMENT!! How do we know this wasn't already an issue of "hood justice"??
Are people really this unintelligent as to think that retaliation is the answer?!? If "hood justice" is the right answer, then please... inform me as to when the killings can stop? When we are all dead? Or when we have all lost loved ones? You cannot possibly be in pain of loss if your idea of justice is street justice!

I think it is absolutely RIDICULOUS how SOME of these people are bashing EMS for trying to save this mans life. I think people should KNOW THE FACTS before they start jumping to conclusions and JUDGING these wonderful people who do everything they possibly can to save a person's life. BY THE WAY: NOT ALL GUN SHOT WOUNDS BLEED OUT!!!!
