The state Highway Patrol continues to investigate a Monday night crash in which a 57-year-old local woman died.

Sergeant R.E. Dudley said the name of the person has not been released as the investigating trooper continues to work on next of kin of notification.

Five people were in the 2003 Dodge pickup which was traveling south on Interstate 95, about a mile and a half north of the 160 exit near Highway 561.

The person who died was a front seat passenger. There were five people in the vehicle when it ran off the highway to the right and struck a ditch. The truck collided with several trees and caught fire shortly before 7:30 p.m.

The woman died later at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, Dudley said.

Three of the four survivors were taken to Pitt and one was treated and released from Halifax Regional Medical Center.
