Halifax County Sheriff's Office narcotics agents seized cocaine and marijuana at a house on Airbase Road outside Roanoke Rapids Friday morning after receiving numerous complaints from residents in the area.

Lieutenant Scott Hall said officers arrested Travis Johnson, charging him with felony possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputy Jason Keeter and his dog, Broady, located marijuana, cocaine and digital scales that had been tossed in the nearby brush in an attempt to hide the drugs from deputies, Hall said.

The search was aided by Lieutenant Neil Aycock, Sergeant Steve Allen and Deputy Mike Almendarez.

Johnson was jailed on $10,000 secured bond. There was 8.8 grams of cocaine and 27 grams of marijuana seized.

As far as a way for ex offenders to get an education.... its called Halifax Community College... the same place we have an opportunity to go. If they chose not to better themselves,; like many of them do; then there is nothing you can do for them. ANd honestly.... if you ran or owned a company, would you REALLY hire and someone guilty of theft and armed robbery to run that store or work in that store?? NO! Don't lie about it... you no darn well you wouldn't even LOOK at their application once you knew that about them!

@Seriously:

Take it easy! I remember growing up working at the schools during the summer. We rapaired things, painted and mowed the grass. I was able to buy my own school clothes and felt pretty darn good about myself. Where are the jobs? Some of these kids can get jobs after school. Some of these kids wanna work. They need to put in some programs to create jobs for young people and teens. Don't put these kids down, let's give them PRIDE in themselves. We can't save all of them, but if we save a few, it's a success...besides, they are the future!

WHy leave it up to someone else to provide YOU a way to help if that is what you want to do?!? It's just a way for you to say "I did what I could, but no one else helped," and have a fall back plan for your lack of actually trying! If you wanna help, CALL THE COUNTY and find out what programs are available! yes biggums Halifax County needs a factory!! But not only do ex offenders need some way to make a living, our youth needs a cheap way to be entertained in a positive atmosphere!It is a horrible cycle that our children are falling into because they seek out drugs and a bad lifestyle for lack of anything better to do. Who will help us? The pride organization at HCC whole heartedly attempts to present this but children at younger ages need help! Like I read in another post, this drug problem we are all fighting (through stolen goods, assault, ect) needs to met head on by some type of county plan! Maybe Lance should create a post for people to offer services for our youth in an attempt to help since we all seemed equally troubled about the rising crime in the area.

They need to implement some type of program that will help ex offenders obtain skills to get a decent job and not shred their application once it is looked upon.that is the only way to decrease drug offenses in the halifax county area

Wow! Another house in another community. What exactly is going on in Roanoke Rapids? I wonder how long he's going to stay in jail and how long before he's out selling again. Something has got to give! The Courts needs to start getting serious with these people. Great job by the Halifax County Sheriff's Dept.! Keep it up guys, I, for one am behind you 100%.
