An outburst by a defendant's mother in court Wednesday as a jury was being polled led to the mother's arrest and the arrest of the defendant, Antwaan Clanton, after he allegedly turned over a table and resisted deputies.

Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the outburst from Lillian Clanton, 55, of Weldon, came as the fourth juror in her son's breaking and entering case was being polled, disagreeing with the guilty verdict.

She became verbally abusive in the courtroom of presiding Judge Alma Hinton and she was charged with disorderly conduct in a public building and contempt of court. She was jailed without the opportunity for bond.

Her son, 38, of Weldon, then became disruptive as his mother was being escorted out, turning over the table. His resistance caused one deputy to sustain a minor injury and a Taser was deployed to control him.

Charges from the disruption are pending and Clanton was remanded to the county jail where he will await sentencing on his guilty verdict on charges of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and injury to personal property.

The remainder of the process was rescheduled for a later date.

Clanton's arrest on a July rape charge, which is still pending, created state headlines when he was mistakenly released from prison instead of being transported to the Halifax County Jail because of outstanding charges. A prison official at Odom Correctional Institution lost his job over the matter.

Well being that you are my uncle i'm not going to justify that what you did was right as far as your mother is concerned but i will say that to a certain degree i understand. All i will say is that trials and tribulations come to make you strong. You're a strong person inspite of the mistakes of your pass..your family loves you always have and always will.On another note though i feel thar all NEGATIVE comments should be kept to yourself my grandmother always taught me if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything.Instead of saying something about him and his mama acting a fool in the courtroom pray for the both of them.they need that more so than anything.. thanks.love
