Beale told the scouts, scoutmasters and the public during the ceremony dedicating the hut to Lewis he was going to work to make sure the scouts owned the building. The scouts are currently paying a dollar a year lease to use the building. Council unanimously endorsed the mayor’s request tonight.
City Manager Paul Sabiston said he was approached by the Rotary Club, which sponsors the scouts, about the same thing.
In another matter tonight, Sabiston told council the city wants to begin a park of the month program, where volunteers pitch in to spruce up or fine tune parks. “It’s no indictment of the parks,” he said, just touch-up items.
Any organization or team which uses the parks is encouraged to help, he said.
