Roanoke Rapids police are investigating a murder at 119 Madison Street.

It is the third act of apparent gun violence in the area in the last 24 hours, with non-fatal shootings in Roanoke Rapids and Weldon occurring Tuesday night.

Captain Andy Jackson confirmed police were investigating a homicide but said the victim has not been identified.

At the scene, Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad personnel put up a blue tarp between 119 Madison and the neighboring house to cover the crime scene.

IT'S REALLY A PROBLEM WHEN THERE IS CRIME OUT OF CONTROL IN ANY AREA. OUR CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING AT THE HANDS OF THOSE THAT CLAIM TO LOVE THEM. IF THE DRUG DEALER IS DEALING AND THE POLICE ARE POLICING THEN WHY HAVEN'T WE GOTTEN OUT OF THE PROBLEM AND INTO THE SOLUTION. I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF PRAYER AND NOT JUST WHEN WE LOSE LOVED ONES BUT BEFORE THE DEVASTATION OF LOSS HAPPENS. MY PRAYERS WILL CONTINUE TO GO UP SO THAT BLESSINGS COME DOWN. IT'S NOT A MY PROBLEM OR A YOUR PROBLEM IT IS A WE PROBLEM AND IF BANDED TOGETHER THE SOLUTION IS HELPFUL NOT HURTFUL. EACH ONE TEACH ONE OUR CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING CAN WE BECOME LESS SELFISH AND SELF CENTERED AND BECOME SELFLESS BECOME MORE GOD CENTERED AND LESS SELF CENTERED. NOT BIBLE THUMPING JUST SPIRITUALY FIT FOR TODAY.

I take exception to the comment that the police are not in the mill village areas, there have been several busts in the past year, some in repeat neighborhoods. I think RRPD does a very good job. It might be better if they hadn't been spread even thinner when they added the theater area to their duty roster and complicated and compromised the entire area by adding the theater with no absolute increase in revenues to increase their crew, that is not the fault of PD, and given the way it was all handled, I seriously doubt the opinion of those most affected (PD and citizens) was sought, much less considered. It's complicated, folks, and everyone has to do their part, including parents stepping up to the plate and having more control over their kids. Think back to discipline by your own parents and grandparents and if it deterred you. That's just the way it is.

T.B. Wright, I wouldn't have a problem paying my taxes if they were being used for more police protection! The truth of the matter is, I don't know what they're being used for, my guess is the theatre. Also, if they hadn't illegally re-evaluated my property, I wouldn't be paying such an absurd amount! I've paid more than my share! Just give me what I'm paying for now!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last-night so I can tell you exactly what "YOUR" tax money is being used for.....NOTHING..... Its kind of hard for them to spend something they haven't got dont you think? so your getting exactly what your paying for NOW!

As for T-ONE, it seems most of your comments are race based. Mostly against the Black community. The truth of the matter is, the ones doing the shooting may be Black, the ones selling the drugs may be Black, but he ones buying the drugs are White. I live in one of these neighborhood where drugs are openly being sold and it's a Black neighborhood and overwhelmingly more Whites are riding through than Black! They're leaving the comfortable confines of their nice "cushy" neighborhood to come to mine's and commit their crime!!! Take off the lilly white glasses you have on and see the real truth! This is an everybody problem, not just Black!!!!

Downtown drug dealers are the whole problem Beside the murder the other night there hasnt been a marked police car on downtown madison or monroe for weeks. Drug dealers are openly selling drugs. What does it take to have it stopped and make our neighborhood safer? You can ride around and see drug deals anytime. The younger kids think it is cool. Slee rugs ,no school and dont work. Its time the police crack down for it gets worse.

Roanoke Rapids does have a problem, a big problem, its DRUGS! As I stated once before, where there's drugs, there's stealing, guns, and violence. I just can't understand why the police dept. can't do something about these drug dealers! Right now, the dealers are looking smarter than the police. It time for the City Council and County Commissioners to stop worrying about collecting more tax money and start worrying about protecting the citizens!I'm so tired of them sending me threatening letters about over due taxes and I got someone in my neighborhood openly selling drugs and I can't even get the police to respond! This is one of the worse places I've ever lived!

The problem isn't the Police it's societies deteroration. And by the way that includes people like yourself who don't pay your taxes in a timely fashion. Where do you think the funds used to fight drugs and other crimes comes from. Taxes

The crime rate in Halifax County is out of control. There should be a "MAN HUNT" for the responsible parties. If law enforcement would hunt for these guys as if it were one of their own there may be a better chance of bringing them to justice.

This is more than a "Drug Problem". This is a Finished Product, of Babies having Babies (Mother 16, Grandmother 32). Mothers on welfare, Dad on drugs. Lack of Education...no grade level higher than 8th or 9th, Lack of postive male role models. Lack of stability (moving from place to place). The Black Community is under seige. More to come. Call the National Guard.
