City council took no action following a closed session tonight but Mayor Emery Doughtie did issue statements on the progress being made with Lafayette Gatling to buy the Roanoke Rapids Theatre and the Brandy Creek refund issue.

Doughtie said at this point there is no reason to think the deal will not go through. “We feel like this continues to move in a positive direction. We've not heard anything that tells us nothing is going to happen. We're still optimistic. It's so important to us that it's done we have to be optimistic.'

Meanwhile, Doughtie said council is waiting to see what direction the county, which meets Monday evening, takes on the Brandy Creek issue.

my oh my the times they are a'changin' hmmm.. are they? believe me, I pray someone buys this mess because refinancing the remaining debt is the only chance this city has to remain solvent and somewhat functional on anything other than a skeletal basis.. I just don't have a lot of faith in the current plan, call me a skeptic but when someone says they've checked to see if the money is at hand and then the person who supposedly has the money at hand starts dragging their feet.. then you take into account past history.. I am a little leery ya know? what's the saying, people who do not learn from the past tend to repeat their mistakes.. or something like that

Is the concept of having a Plan B totally lost on this group? If it's so important, optimisim alone will not suffice. It shows how short-sighted the administraion is.

I also heard Doughtie was later seen in the parking lot, clicking his ruby slippers together while saying, "There's no place like home."

Rumor has it, that the city council, was picked up and replaced by ailens when they made the same stupid move with someone who didn't have the money to pay the rent when he had it on a rent to own bases....

I don't know if there is any truth to the rumor that during the meeting a spaceship was gonna come down and drop off Mr. Gatlin and a big bag of cash. In return, the aliens want Ernest Bobbitt,Emery Doughty and a player to be named later. Rumor has it....
