Chalker has been with the city since 2009 and prior to being appointed interim public works director, he was property maintenance manager for the city.
Prior to working with the city, Chalker held a number of management positions in the private sector.
In making the appointment, Ed Wyatt, interim city manager, said that “We are most pleased that Larry has accepted this position. He is a most resourceful person that possesses excellent interpersonal skills.”
Recently, he was one of the key officials that responded effectively to Hurricane Irene, Wyatt said in a press release.
