A convenience store break in was solved this morning with help from the city’s canine officer, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Members of A Squad responded to an alarm call at Jimmy’s at 122 Roanoke Avenue around 1:30 this morning.

Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said officers found the side glass broken and dispatched Zeusa and her handler, Chris Woodruff.

Zeusa led officers to a nearby house and found shirts, cigars, cigarettes and other items inside.

Four people — Darius Williams, 22; Kenneth Patterson, 20; Roderick Williams, 21 and Eddie Flythe, 41 — were arrested. The four Roanoke Rapids men were charged with breaking, entering and larceny, possession of stolen property, larceny after breaking and entering, criminal damage to property and conspiracy. They were jailed on bonds ranging from $8,000 to $10,000 and have November 5 court dates.

“The guys did a good job,” Bondarek said. “Zeusa is still young but is obviously performing her duties very well.”
